TCBA was created by John R. Himes of Asahikawa Shi, Hokkaido, Japan. Sifu Himes, along with other TCBA members studied Pai Lum and Koushou Kung Fu under James C. Cravens at Tennessee Temple University in the 1970's and 1980's. TCBA curriculums preserve the arts as they were taught at TTU by Professor James C. Cravens in that era. Professor Cravens now heads the Chinese Boxing Institute International. Valour School of Self Defense combines the above mentioned styles with Sifu Lonnie Sutherland's Golden Dragon Kung Fu from the Red Dragon Kwoon. We must also remember that God is our true defense and to rely on His strength to work in us to truly resolve conflict. Martial Arts have roots from various asian religions. We strive to teach martial arts, not denying these roots, but rather leading to the truth about Jesus Christ and the true Spirit of God. The Budist/Taoist religions sought the "Tao" meaining "Way" and wisdom. They believed it was difficult if not impossible to attain this "Way". We believe that Jesus is the "Way", the truth and the light unto our path. We cannot attain it, but rather accept it. We also believe that true wisdom comes from a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

I am a certified black belt instructor with the Matsubayashi style of Shorin-Ryu and a practitioner of other styles. I am also the co-founder of the Christian Martial Arts Academy on Kauai, a free non-profit martial arts program that teaches Kajukenbo, which derived out of Honolulu in the early 50's. I began my training in 1975 and studied in New York and Tokyo. When I got saved in 87 that Lord asked me to put down my training for a while, which I did. Basically he told me to be a "black belt" in Christianity and if I put as much heart and effort into Him, as I did into my martial arts, He would bless me, which He has. I did that until about 2004 when we started the Christian Self Defense Academy and I started again. Although not as loose and limber as I once was, my primary focus in on Jesus and the saving of souls. To that end I am always looking for ways to reach the lost and of course in our field, because the Martial Arts can be a dark place filled with eastern mysticism, pride and arrogance, moreso my heart desires to reach out. I am a published author and wrote a book back in 2002 (Beirut: God's Boot Camp) and numerous magazine articles as well. I hope to do a book on the martial arts soon, but why I am contacting you is that I am working with someone at the International Bible Society in developing a "Martial Arts" New Testament. This would be a witnessing tool, much like the Cowboy bible, or Fireman/Police/Military/Biker New testaments they offer. It would be an opportunity to get the bible in the hands of those who might not necessarily pick one up and read it. So, what I'm trying to get some input from different Christian Martial Arts groups, like yourself, to see if you would be interested in something like this, as a witnessing tool, to give out at events, or at your schools and affiliate schools. It would have a cool cover that would reflect the martial arts, have testimony from various Christian Martial artists, known, unknown, men, women, kids etc... A New Testament that would help those who don't know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, come to know Him via testimonies of others who study and train as hard as they do, possible some small teachings and of course the best tool, via God's inspired Word. This is just the beginning/discovery stage and we are still formulating it, but I am checking to see if you would be interested in something like this for your school or organization. Description: I am 17 teen years old. I have been in the martial art for 12 years. I have been through numerous Schools. Some better then others. Right now i have Nidan in Traditional Karate-do 2nd Dan in Ryukyu Kenpo (Lear's martial art academy- it's a Dillman Karate international). those are my highest ranking. I will be testing for my 3rd dan this summer in ryukyu kenpo! I have many other rankings too! Me and God I grew up in not your typical prayer preaching, sunday going, lovey dovey family. My mother was a good women. to know if she knew Jesus. IDK. She died when i was 3 or 4. my mother did alot of illegal drugs. I then moved in with my abusive drug dealing father. He mostly worked and got trashed, zinged, or high all the time when he wasn't working. He died when i was 8. After seeing my father pass. I was broken inside. I went to move in with my half sister. She was a strong Christain. Still is! She brought me to Jesus. I realize now that i am never alone. I had a time in life when i was like why all this. here is my conclution. The Martial Arts world is a dark place. There for i have opened my own christain Dojo in little old New Bremen Ohio. I heip people though the art and through Jesus. I show them that christianity is not a religon. I hate religon! But a relationship with our father Jesus Christ. I also teach the preshure point system of the martial art. I explain the chi, qi-gong and all the "powers" that they are fake. it's the knowledge of the preshure points in order to controle your uki or knock them out. We also relize that the arts that we learn were created in a time when you didn't have to think about the legal ramifcations of our actions. My adults know that this stuff KILLS and they know when it is used and not used. for instance. the classical "High BlOCK"! there are no blocks in karate only strikes! the body blocks naturely! think about if you see a ball is be thrown at you. you catch it or dodge it. see! now the clasic high block. do a cross up "block". uki grads the top wrist. your top hand pulls back to your obi the bottom hand comes up for the high block hitting Tripple wammer 11 or 12 breaking the arm or if done lighty with preshure bings them on their toes.
